2022 NAM Christmas Card

Inaina i te manahau o te arawheu. Meri Kirihimete!
Bask in the delights of the summer season. Merry Christmas!

From the Director and Staff of the National Army Museum Te Mata Toa, we want to wish you a safe and joyful holiday season. We could not do what we do without you, so thank you for your support this year.

Our Christmas Card to you is a little different this year, showcasing two textile items from our collection not currently on display.

The first is an exquisite (and very large) Royal Standard of Queen Elizabeth II. It became a permanent part of our collection when the Museum opened in 1978 as the QEII Army Memorial Museum. With Her Majesty’s passing this year, we wanted our Card to reflect the Museum’s connection to and respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The second is a more recent item to our collection. It is a banner made by the friends and families of personnel deployed over Christmas 2019 to Camp Taji, Iraq, on Operation Manawa 10. It features handwritten messages, signatures, and words of support and love from those in NZ to their nearest and dearest deployed far from home. It is an honour to be able to preserve and protect our recent taonga too.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all, whether you’re home for Christmas, at the bach, or somewhere in between. For those overseas on operations away from home and loved ones, thank you for your service. Stay safe, everyone!

We’re open every day except Christmas Day, so stop in for a visit on your travels these summer holidays.
