This artefact is a World War One nurses uniform worn by 656 Sister Maggie Dalrymple, Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve (QAIMNSR).
Originally from Bulls, Maggie trained at Wellington Hospital and received State Registration in New Zealand in 1908. Maggie, often referred to as ‘Miss Meg’, had a brother Roy, who served with the Wellington Mounted Rifles and was badly wounded at Gallipoli.
Maggie Dalrymple served overseas during WWI, mainly on the Western Front. In April 1917, Sister Maggie Dalrymple was decorated with the Associate Royal Red Cross (ARRC) by King George V at Buckingham Palace. Her medal can be seen in the Museum’s Medal Repository.
