This German Luger P08, 9mm calibre, was captured by 16/304 Captain Pirimi Pererika Tahiwi of the NZ (Māori) Pioneer Battalion. It is believed to have been acquired during the Battle of Flers-Courcelette which began on the 15th September 1916. The engraved markings found on the grip signify its belonging to the 6th Company of the 19th Bavarian Infantry Regiment, 10th Bavarian Infantry Brigade, 5th Bavarian Division.
