Our Education and Visitor Experience team (and Curatorial staff) collaborate to facilitate professional learning for teachers. Possible themes include the Social Sciences curriculum refresh, using the Museum as a space to explore local stories of significance, and extending students’ research skills at the Kippenberger Research Centre.
We received this feedback from Marama Allen, the Principal of Ruapehu College, after their PLD at the Museum with her staff in November 2022:
“Highly recommend to school leaders in NZ. If you are looking for a well structured professional development for staff that can be catered to and support: different education levels, cross-curricular, Aotearoa histories, delivered by teachers who know the NZ curriculum and more, then the team at the National Army Museum, Waiouru, New Zealand (Marlene, Pare and Debbie) are the people to see. Ruapehu College teachers had an awesome day and are now planning class visits for next year.”
